The Obelisk is perhaps the most famous monument in Buenos Aires (see How to get to and from Ezeiza Buenos Aires airport (EZE)) and Argentina. It spot has been established as the main venue for the Argentina population, where politicians and sporting triumphs are celebrated, but also where protests are concentrated when discontent arises in the Argentinian capital city.
This imposing monument was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Buenos Aires foundation. This National Historic Monument is located at the Republic Square on the large 9 de Julio Avenue and the intersection with Corrientes Avenue. Its height is 67.5 mts.
The area around Obleisk is highly commercial and it’s also possible to find all kinds of shops, cafes and theaters.
